SEPANG, 26 September 2016 – The Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) would like to extend our condolences to Puan Siti Suhaiza Seman and family on the loss of her husband En Izwan Isa and their daughter Nur Zulaikha due to an accident at the Educational Innovation of Motorsports and Automotive (EIMARACE) 2016 go-kart race at Indera Mahkota, Kuantan yesterday. We would also like to wish Puan Siti Suhaiza and her son Muhammad Izz Danial a speedy recovery from their injuries sustained in the same accident.
MAM is currently conducting a thorough investigation into this incident and are in contact with the organisers of this event, the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The event had been sanctioned by MAM based on the organiser’s commitment to ensure safety enhancements for the safety of all areas including spectators zones.
As an organisation that seeks to encourage participation in motorsports at the grassroots level, the continued organisation of the EIMARACE event since 2009 and the continued passion among the students as well as the interest among the public is positive. However, safety is of the utmost importance in motorsports, whether at the grassroots level or at the most prestigious international level, and in both street races and track races.
MAM continues to work with event organisers to ensure that all races are safe for spectators and participants alike. It is particularly important that all members of the public are aware of safe conduct when watching motorsports and that all security personnel have sufficient training to manage race safety.
We will be sharing updates following further investigations into this incident.
