KUALA LUMPUR, 27 Feb 2024 – The Motorsport Association of Malaysia (MAM) is taking a more proactive approach to elevate Malaysian motorsport to the next level. With a focus on development and collaboration, MAM will be engaging more closely with relevant stakeholders, including associations, clubs, and event organisers, while maintaining the utmost importance on safety during events.
“We are committed to fostering a more engaging environment with all stakeholders within the Malaysian motorsport scene,” said Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, President of MAM at a media luncheon today. “Through increased collaboration and the sharing of knowledge, we aim to address the challenges faced by our stakeholders and create a platform for sustainable growth within the sport.”
MAM has already begun implementing various initiatives to achieve this goal. Recent workshops focused on modules for drag racing and motocross demonstrate MAM’s commitment to providing targeted support to specific disciplines within motorsport.
“This is an ongoing effort by us that will be further strengthened through more frequent workshops and discussions across the board,” added Tan Sri Mokhzani.
Furthermore, MAM is actively seeking to strengthen its collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, state governments, local authorities, and the police. This collaboration is intended to encourage and facilitate the organisation of sanctioned motorsports events, particularly at the grassroots level.
As a significant step towards this goal, MAM is on the verge of launching a comprehensive guideline for organising drag and motocross events. This guideline will provide organisers with a clear framework to ensure the safety and smooth running of sanctioned events, paving the way for an increase in sanctioned competitions across these disciplines.
“We also plan to do a review of the National Competition Rules, and we do hope for our initiatives to have full support and cooperation from relevant stakeholders for the benefit of Malaysian motorsports,” said Tan Sri Mokhzani.
The event today also saw the introduction of the new MAM Executive Committee members. Present were Deputy President, Dato’ Mohammed Rhiza Ghazi; Secretary General, S.N. Nanthan; Treasurer, Dato’ Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali. Also present were other Exco members namely Ron Hogg, Alex Yoong, Jazeman Jaafar, Shaharuddin Yahya and Bronnie Marshall.
“Building on the existing foundation, the newly formed committee will undertake a strategic effort to significantly enhance engagement with all relevant stakeholders. Through a collaborative and action-oriented approach, we aim to elevate Malaysian motorsport to the next level,” said Tan Sri Mokhzani.
